HELP THE DONKEYS
How about a visit to the Nerja Donkey Sanctuary, located at the western end of town? The Donkey Sanctuary is for animals in recovery that are to be re-homed or for those animals that will be permanent residents due to their age or continual need for medication. There are no paid staff and it relies purely on volunteers. The sanctuary needs visitors to pat, pamper, talk to and walk their 'guests'.
Donkeys can live for 50 years and have the same emotions of love, fear, loneliness and tenderness as people. They love people, especially children, so why not pay them a visit.....Opening hours are 9 - 12 and 7 - 9pm daily in the summer and 10 - 2 during winter. Saturday morning, 10 - 2, is Kidz Club and it's free. Carrots, apples, lettuce, fresh grass etc are nice for the donkeys (hint hint) and cat and dog food is always welcome.
TIRE THEM OUT
If you can get them off the beach and into action there are many activity breaks such as water parks, an adventure park (near Marbella), nature tours in jeeps, walking tours , pony trekking and water sports.
Plenty to do, plenty to see, in almost guaranteed sunshine - an ideal holiday for you and the family to enjoy.
LIFE'S A BEACH
Enjoy a stroll along the shore-path which links the coves and inlets from Nerja town all the way along to the lively Burriana Beach. Try the beach bars and restaurants and let them prepare you a dish of real paella or some fresh sardines grilled over a wood fire. Delicious!
Playa de Maro (Maro Beach)
This is a sandy beach of considerable size, with easy access and very popular during festive season.
GO TO TOWN
Nerja has many shops ranging from designer boutiques to small souvenir stalls. There are also several hundred bars and restaurants ranging from traditional Spanish tapas bars to gourmet restaurants from many cuisines, Enjoy!.
The traveling market also comes to Nerja on Tuesday which is well worth experiencing and there is a car boot sale on Sundays.
SAY HELLO TO A 6000 YEAR OLD SKELETON
The fabulous Nerja Caves are a must for visitors. This ancient site of human habitation is just a 10 minute bus trip from Nerja town and is open to tourists all year round. Enjoy a concert in the main cavern or simply marvel at the geological features including the largest natural column in the world formed when a stalactite and a stalagmite met in the middle!
